The Inn at Ojo

At the Inn at Ojo, a bed & breakfast located in Ojo Caliente, NM, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Completely renovated in 1993 in New Mexico Territorial style, the rooms are comfortable and charming and each accommodates 2 people.

Located within walking distance of the famous Ojo Caliente mineral hot springs (a separate establishment), the buildings are owned by the Wimett family who moved to New Mexico in the early 1950’s.

Every room has an outside door, a view of the Inn’s courtyard and its own bathroom with a shower. The building is well insulated to ensure cool interior temperatures in the summer and cozy warm in the winter. Each room is carefully furnished with items acquired over a lifetime. Many nineteenth-century wardrobes act as focal points for the rooms and are a handy place to unpack for your stay. All rooms are non-smoking.

Breakfast is prepared each morning and includes strong fresh-ground coffee, assorted teas and orange juice, the Inn’s own granola, homemade muffins or bread, hearty whole grain pancakes with homemade local fruit syrup or eggs with veggies and cheese served with butter fried potatoes. We strive to accommodate restricted diets if informed ahead of time. 505-583-9131

The Mercantile

Across the courtyard from the Inn is the Mercantile at Ojo, a large old adobe building which was the original Ojo store selling everything needed in the 1920’s. With stamped tin ceilings and a meat hook it now houses Natural Wear and Wimett Realty.

Leza Wimett owns and runs Natural Wear which sells unique, and wonderful jewelry, local art, relevant books, handmade lavender soaps, sage bundles, beeswax candles, locally woven rag rugs, and clothing of all sorts. Women can pick up a new identity in clothing or a bathing suit for a visit to the nearby hot springs pools. The second room of the shop is full of wonderful things collected by Zemmie, the mother of all the Wimetts: doors, stained glass windows, antique quilts, crocheted lap robes, sets of dishes and glasses and old suede shoes. 505-583-9153

Wimett Realty, run by Sarah Wimett, who is another of Tom and Zemmie’s daughters, has listings for every visitor with a serious interest in a change of pace or place. Northern New Mexico has a moderate climate and wonderful lifestyles. Call ahead if you want to look at a place to buy. 505-583-2016
